Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering

This course is suitable for people employed in various businesses within the engineering sector. The Engineering Manufacture framework at Level 3 is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and competence requirements to operate at technician level within various engineering sub-sectors. These might include engineering maintenance, engineering technical support or mechanical manufacturing.

The course is modular and the most appropriate units will be selected with the support and guidance of the assessor to ensure they are aligned with the type of work undertaken.

Entry Requirements

The Apprenticeship is open to those aged 16+ in suitable employment who hold GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above in English and Maths.

For exams taken 2017 onwards you will need GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 5 or above in English and Maths.

You will also need to successfully complete an English and Maths assessment at the interview stage.

What do I need to bring?

Notepad/paper, pen, pencils, calculator (mobile phone is not acceptable for this).

Assessment/Exam information

The NVQ is gained:
• By observation of your practical skills in the workplace
• By inspection of material that you have produced or collected (your portfolio of evidence).

The Technical Certificate is gained:
• By creating a portfolio and completing online assessments
• By attending college on day release.

This course is based at North Star where you will receive expert tuition from well qualified and experienced staff.
A Training Co-ordinator will support you throughout your training, through regular work based review meetings.

What can I do next?

On completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship, opportunities exist to progress to a Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4 or Foundation Degree level). It will also enhance future job opportunities as the qualifications gained are formally recognised by those in the industry.

Apprenticeships have formed a cornerstone of training for engineering companies for many years. The content of the programme is agreed with employers so that all Apprentices meet a national standard, as well as being flexible enough for an employer to tailor elements to their particular needs.

Qualification description

On the successful completion of the course the student will be awarded an Advanced Apprenticeship covering:
• NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (QCF) OR NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Technical Support (QCF) OR NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (QCF) (Level 3) OR any other appropriate NVQ in Engineering
• Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (QCF)
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
• Functional Skills in English(Level 2)
• Functional Skills in Maths (Level 2)
• Functional Skills in ICT (Level 2)
• Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS)
