Introduction to Counselling

Anyone who has an interest in counselling and would like to know more. You will begin to learn; what counselling is/is not, listening skills, non-verbal communication, responding skills, self-awareness, Rogers (core conditions), different models of counselling.

You will participate in exercises designed to increase self-awareness and practice using basic listening and responding skills in pairs and small groups.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

What do I need to bring?

Notepad and pen.

Assessment/Exam information

Continuous assessment by tutor observation
A minimum of 80% attendance is required
Students will need to keep a journal of their learning.

Other information

Library and IT facilities are available to all students.

What can I do next?

Following successful completion of this course, students may apply, via a selection interview, for the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills course.

Qualification description

Successful completion will result in the awards of a Swindon College certificate.
