Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance, Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations (QCF)
This qualification has been designed to develop practical skills, knowledge and understanding of the practical skills required in building maintenance, multi-trade repair work and refurbishment operations. The high quality training on this course prepares students for entering the workplace with an industry recognised qualification. It is most suited to those who do not currently work in the trade but would like to do so. It is available as part of a full apprenticeship programme or a full-time study programme.
There is also an NVQ Diploma route available for those who are currently employed in the trade and who wish to confirm their competence in Building Maintenance.
The course covers three core subject areas:
- Health, safety and welfare
- Technical information, quantities and communication
- Construction technology
Students will learn about a range of key practical skills and knowledge including:
- Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
- Developing customer relationships
- Carrying out masonry repairs
- Carrying out painting and decorating repairs
- Carrying out plastering repairs
- Carrying out plumbing repairs
- Carrying out wood repairs
- Carrying out tiling repairs
- Carrying out roofing repairs
Applicants should ideally have 2 GCSE, grades 3 (D equivalent) and above in Maths and English alongside a real interest, enthusiasm and commitment to learn. This will be assessed at an initial formal interview.
Applicants will need to have the interest, enthusiasm and willingness to work in an open air environment.
What do I need to bring?
Safety Footwear, Ruler, Pens, Pencils (for classroom and workshop), Pencil Sharpener, A4 Ring Binder, A4 Lined Refill Pad, Calculator (mobile phones are not acceptable).
Assessment will consist of practical observations, multi choice and job related knowledge tests.
During the course students will receive expert tuition from highly qualified and experienced staff as well as having a personal tutor whose role is to help and support students through the course.
Swindon College has one of the largest and most varied Construction Schools in the South West and has large craft workshops where full size site simulations can take place.
Within the College you will have access to an excellent range of facilities i.e. library, study centre, IT, refectory and outdoor pursuits.
What can I do next?
Completion of the Level 2 Diploma will provide opportunities to progress onto Level 3 or further training, apprenticeships or employment.
On successful completion of this course students will gain the following qualification:
