L2 Award in Barista Skills

The aim of this qualification is to prepare you for working as a barista. You will develop the skills to make various types of coffee and tea that are regularly prepared for customers in coffee shops, cafes, hotels and restaurants. You will learn about coffee, where it is grown, how it is processed and how it arrives ready for you to grind and brew. You will know how to correctly handle products so you can produce excellent drinks. You will loook at the full range of equipment, identify safety aspects and be able to recognise common faults so you can operate the equipment to deliver the desired drink quality. You will also become aware of the importance of good customer service and solve problems that arise on a daily basis when working as a barista.

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements required but a genuine interest in coffee or employment in or a desire to be employed within the hospitality industry in a cafe, restaurant or coffee shop is desirable.

This course is only available for 19+ students.

What do I need to bring?

Learners will be required to wear flat, non-slip shoes and a long sleeve top which will need to be provided by the learner. You will need to bring with you a pen and note pad to make notes.

Assessment/Exam information

Assessment is by question and answer and practical observed skills. You will be assessed on a variety of topics including operating and mantaining a range of equipment, demonstrating product knowledge and customer service skills.
