BTEC National Extended Diploma in Production Arts (Media Make-up)

During the course you will study a wide range of specialist make-up techniques for fashion, film, theatre and television. You will study hairstyling and wig dressing with a clear focus on visual studies. You will also carry out historical research relating to fashion trends and cultural differences which will inform the creative work you undertake. You will gain experience by working in a realistic working environment and by attending media productions. This may involve some evening and weekend work.

Entry Requirements

GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above and an additional two GCSE's at Grade C or an appropriate Level 2 qualification with a Merit grade profile.

All applicants are expected to show artistic flair and will be required to present a portfolio of creative work at interview.

What do I need to bring?

All students will need to come to college with the equipment and materials needed from their kit.

Assessment/Exam information

The course is assessed by a variety of methods including: projects, assignments, presentations and course work; all of which are internally moderated, as well as being verified by an external examiner to maintain national quality and standards.

All work is graded using a scale of Pass, Merit and Distinction. The course is unit based and presents continuous assessment opportunities, as opposed to a final examination; therefore, your progress can be accurately tracked and assessed throughout the entire programme, offering you the opportunity to improve your grades.

Other information

Any student who has not previously achieved a grade C in GCSE English or Maths will be required to study towards this qualification as part of their programme of study.

During the course students develop a range of transferable skills, which play an essential role in developing personal effectiveness for adult and working life and in the application of specific vocational skills.

What can I do next?

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to progress on to the second year of the programme in order to achieve a full BTEC National Extended Diploma.

Qualification description

Students who complete this course will be awarded a BTEC 90-Credit Diploma in Production Arts which is a fully recognised national qualification.
