Level 2 Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery

This course is for people who are employed in the food and hospitality industry and who have the ambition to become trained and skilled chefs.

At Level 2 you will study general aspects of catering like Health and Hygiene, Safety, Security, Handling Knives and Working Relationships.

Preparation and cooking units could include: meat, fish, sauces and soups, vegetables, dough products, pasta, rice, egg dishes, cakes, sponges and desserts.

Entry Requirements

The Apprenticeship is open to those aged 16+ in suitable employment who hold GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade D or above in English and Maths.

For exams taken 2017 onwards you will need GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 3 or above in English and Maths.

Although the course is essentially practical and vocational in nature, the basic knowledge associated with food preparation, science and hygiene are covered in a degree of detail.

Additionally, students on the course can expect to continue with their functional skills development.

Overall, the course requires a strong commitment in terms of motivation and flexibility, since trainee chefs have to work under pressure preparing quality food to an ever-discerning public.
