Access to (HE), Social Work

The Access Diploma in Social Work course is for adults who have limited academic qualifications, but who would like to proceed to a degree course or on to professional training. The course is studied full-time over one academic year and includes subjects necessary for successful completion of the Diploma and entry to higher level study in Social Work, Youth Justice and Social Policy. The modules of study include; Law in Social Work, Judicial Systems, Contract Law, Non-Fatal Offences against a Person, Independent Study Skills.

Entry Requirements

Candidates will normally be over the age of 19 with the desire to proceed onto university or professional training. It is desirable for candidates to have a GCSE grade 4 or above in English. All potential students are offered an advisory interview and should demonstrate an aptitude for degree level study.

You could be entitled to have your fees waived if you are aged 19-23 and do not have a full level 3 qualification or you are aged 24+ and unemployed. Assessment/Exam information

Your progress is monitored by continuous assessment throughout the year and in some instances by end of module exams.

A programme of exam practice is also included to help students feel better prepared.

Continuous assessments will include short and long essays, reports, project work, posters, presentations, individual research and group work.

Students are encouraged to evaluate themselves and their progress and to participate in discussions with fellow students

Assessment is built around achieving credits at different levels within the units, which make up each module or subject.

Other information

During the course you will receive expert tuition from well-qualified and experienced staff.

You will have a personal tutor whose role will be to help and support you through your course.

You will have access to a range of college facilities e.g. the Library and Study Skills Centre incorporating Information Technology.
