Diploma in Uniformed Public Services

From the military to the police, to the civil service and the public services, there are a wide range of careers available.
Courses include fitness, leadership development, careers in the public services and the huge variety of opportunities to work and study at higher levels.

Entry Requirements

1 Year - 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent Level 1/2 qualification.

What do I need to bring?

USB drive (16GB min), file Pen, paper/notebook, suitable sportswear (indoor and outdoor) - you have the opportunity to purchase college branded sportswear (kit supplier tbc)

Assessment/Exam information

Units will be assessed using a variety of assessment methods including written reports, practical training and coaching sessions, presentations using modern technologies (e.g. E-portfolios, videos, PowerPoint, prezzie) and visual displays.
Each unit will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction which will contribute to an overall double grade profile (e.g. P, M, D, D*). There will be a minimum of three assignments per unit.

Other information

The L2 Public Services provides the vocational element of a full-time programme of study. Other compulsory elements include GCSE English and mathematics or the appropriate Functional Skill, leadership awards or coaching qualifications, work experience, community volunteering, online careers and employability unit, cross college enrichment activities and weekly tutorials. A number of guest speakers from the Army, Navy, Police, RAF, Fire Service, Paramedic and Ambulance Service will provide further enrichment to the course and provide students with key information regarding entry requirements, and the skills and attributes to be successful in the public services. Real life stories also give the students a clear insight into the daily routines and required expectation of active service men and women.

What can I do next?

Level 3 qualifications in Public Services at Swindon College or pursue employment in the public service sector. Other opportunities as a fitness instructor or activity/sports leader may exist depending on specific industry qualifications gained.

Free for 16-18 and other eligible funding categories - subject to status. Students aged 19+ will normally require an advanced learning loan. There is an additional trips and equipment fee of £100 which is payable after enrolment.
