Sport & The Fitness Academy: Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport

Whether you want to be a coach, a personal trainer, a sports therapist or an analyst, we have the sporting package for you.

Focused on you becoming a top personal trainer, you will develop a sense of yourself, a character and a top career.
You'll have the opportunity of leading our Football Academy and Rugby Academy in the national college leagues too!

The very best personal trainers' have the chance to enter World Skills competitions.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or equivalent Level 2 qualification.

Fees information

The course fees are listed in the course information box below. You could be entitled to have your fees waived if you are aged 19-23 and do not have a full level 3 qualification or you are aged 24+ and unemployed. What do I need to bring?

USB drive (16GB min), file Pen, paper/notebook, suitable sportswear (indoor and outdoor) - you have the opportunity to purchase college branded sportswear (kit supplier tbc)

Assessment/Exam information

Units will be assessed through a variety of practical and multi-choice examinations, worksheets, coursework and other coursework methods.

You will be graded at Pass/Merit/Distinction level for the work you contribute to. Full UCAS points are obtainable to progress to degree-level study in Sport & The Fitness Academy, Swindon Management School or other provider.

Other information


The L3 Sport Diploma (2nd Year) provides the vocational element of a full-time programme of study. Other compulsory elements include GCSE English and mathematics or the appropriate Functional Skill, leadership awards or coaching qualifications, work experience, community volunteering, online careers and employability unit, cross college enrichment activities and weekly tutorials.

Remember, you can specialise your stream in the Football Academy, Rugby Academy, Management, Coaching or simply, Sport. Declare your interest on your application form.


Training is held at least once per week for at least 2 consecutive hours. Facilities in 2017/18 include the Oasis Leisure Centre, Swindon Supermarine F.C. (where all home football matches are played), local golf facilities and more.

The Gym is our newly refurbished facility, meeting the levels of expectation at professional sports clubs.

What can I do next?

Our HND Sport has been designed to fit with the qualifications we deliver at Swindon College and internal progression from Level 3 to HND is highly recommended.

Any extra costs

Free for 16-18 and other eligible funding categories - subject to status. Students aged 19+ will normally require an advanced learning loan. There is an additional trips and equipment fee of £100 which is payable after enrolment. Financial assistance is available by application and eligibility criteria will be matched against applications. Details are available from Student Services.
