Level 3 Apprenticeship in Electrotechnical Technician

This course is suitable for people employed in the electrical industry.

The Apprenticeship covers the following areas:
• Applying Health & Safety and Environmental considersations
• Understand how to plan and oversee the work environment
• Understand the design and installation practices and procedures
• Understand terminations and connections of conductors
• Understand the requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671
• Electrical scientific principles and technologies
• Understand inspection, testing and commissioning
• Understand fault diagnosis and rectification

Entry Requirements

The Apprenticeship is open to those aged 16+ in suitable employment who hold GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above in English, Maths, and any Science subject.

For exams taken 2017 onwards you will need GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above in English and any Science subject, and grade 5 or above in Maths.

You will also need to have the interest, enthusiasm and willingness to work hard.

Applications are welcome from those who have not reached this standard, in this case due consideration will be given to records of achievement and employment.

Assessment/Exam information

The assessment of your ability to do the job will be confirmed by:
• Observation of your work
• Material you collect
• Accreditation of prior learning
• Questions asked of you regarding the particular situation in which you are working

You will be expected to prove your competence through completing a Site Diary and work based assessments by
our Work Based Assessor.

The AM2 Test is an external three-day practical assessment and is taken by students who are approaching the end of their Apprenticeship.

This course is based at North Star. During the course you will receive expert tuition from highly trained staff.
A qualified Assessor will be allocated to the learner who will provide an induction and plan with him/her assessments in their work place.
A Training Co-ordinator will support you throughout your training, through regular work based review meetings.

What can I do next?

On completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship the student will be recognised by the Joint Industry Board (JIB) as an Installation Electrician.

On the successful completion of the course the apprentice will be awarded:
• City & Guilds Diploma in Electrotechnology 5357
• Functional Skills in English (Level 2)
• Functional Skills in Maths (Level 2)
• Achievement Measurement 2 (AM2) Test
• Employer Rights & Responsibilities (ERR)
• Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS)
