Level 3 Pearson BTEC Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services

If you’re interested in a career in Public Services, there’s a broad range of services to choose from, including Police, Fire, Ambulance Service and Armed Forces. This course will prepare you to take the next step in your career.

You will explore topics such as Leadership, Discipline, Command Skills, Expeditions, Crime and its effects on society. As the public services are physically demanding you will also cover a range of fitness units to prepare you for life in the services.

Entry Requirements

GCSE English and Maths at Level 4.
A strong worth ethic, teamwork approach and ability to reflect and improve are essential.

What do I need to bring?

You will need a pen and notebook to keep track of your course work and notes. You will also require walking boots and warm clothes for expeditions and trips.

Assessment/Exam information

As part of this course, you will learn and be assessed through a range of different methods including written reports, practical training, presentations using modern technologies and visual displays. Each unit will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction which will contribute to an overall grade profile (e.g. PPP, MMM, DDD, D*D*D*).

Other information

The L3 Public Services provides the vocational element of a full-time programme of study. Other compulsory elements include GCSE English and mathematics (if a Level 4 has not been achieved), work experience, community volunteering, online careers and employability unit, cross college enrichment activities and weekly tutorials. A number of guest speakers from the emergency services and armed forces will provide further enrichment to the course and provide students with knowledge of the skills and attributes to be successful in the public services.

These courses are designed to meet the needs of students wishing to pursue a career in one of the uniformed Public Services – The Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Prison Service, Armed Forces. Successful completion and achievement of this course can support your progression onto higher education to study a Public Services Degree such as the following:
