Swindon Management School: ABE L4 Business Management and Human Resources (HR) Diploma

This course will equip you with the skills you need for a junior management role, such as a HR officer, general manager or a digital marketing executive. The course comprises seven core units and one specialist HR unit:

• Dynamic Business Environment (Semester 1, Tuesday evening)
• Enterprising Organisations (Semester 1, Wednesday evening)
• Introduction to Entrepreneurship (Semester 1, Tuesday all day)
• Introduction to Qualitative Methods (Semester 1, Tuesday all day)
• Employability and Self Development (Semester 2, Tuesday evening)
• Finance for Managers (Semester 2, Wednesday evening)
• Project Management (Semester 2, Tuesday day)
• Principles of HR (HR) (Semester 2, Tuesday day)

This course can be accessed as either a 1 year Full time course or a 2 year Part time course. Full time students attend college on Tuesday (all day and evening) and Wednesday (evening only). Part time students can attend in the day on Wednesday, or, alternatively on two evenings, Wednesday and Thursday.

If you want to commit to the full ABE L6 Diploma in Business Management at the time you start your L5 we will pay your year 6 tuition fee! See the “What I can do next?” section for more information.

Entry Requirements

If you are aged 19 and under we would expect you to have at least 48 UCAS points (usually A Levels, BTEC or similar Level 3) and have GCSE level 4/C in English and Maths.

One massive advantage of this course is that no formal qualifications are specified for adults aged 20 +. We have to ensure you have a reasonable expectation of success on the programme by assessing your previous qualifications and/or related work experience.

Entry is automatic for any student holding a L4 ABE qualification or other relevant L4 qualification.

What do I need to bring?

Your own device (i.e. tablet / laptop) will be required, you will also have access to College network computers.

Assessment/Exam information

The course is assessed by a combination of examinations (at set times) and Assignments. This means you may have a gap between studying a unit and then sitting the exam. Revision sessions will be arranged to help you with that. See below, which units are examined and which are assignment based. To pass the course you must complete all eight units and achieve a pass in at least 7:

• Dynamic Business Environment (Examination)
• Enterprising Organisations (Examination)
• Introduction to Entrepreneurship (Assignment)
• Introduction to Qualitative Methods (Examination)
• Employability and Self Development (Assignment)
• Finance for Managers (Examination)
• Project Management (Examination)
• Principles of HR (Assignment)

Other information

What can I do next?

After completing your L4 Qualification you can progress onto the ABE L5 Diploma in either; Management, HR, or Marketing. The attendance is the same as L4 i.e. one full day and one evening FT or two evenings PT. If you decide you want to commit to a full L6 Diploma (Degree Level) when you start your L4 or L5 course we will pay your L6 tuition fee for you. All you need to do is pay registration and exam fees.

Most people believe you have to study for three years at University to achieve a degree. That isn’t the case. ABE have agreements with a number of Universities, including University of the West of England, where you can use your ABE L5 qualification to enter a degree course in the second year, or, in the case of The University of Gloucestershire, go directly to a post- graduate MBA, with your L6 ABE qualification, skipping the need for a first degree altogether. Not only does this keep your options open but it may also save you a small fortune in tuition fees and living expenses.

There are many more top-up agreements including numerous progression routes which are delivered by ABE centres, see www.abeuk.com/what-next/find-university on our website or talk studentservices@swindon.ac.uk for more information.
