Chris Beard Apprentice at Swindon College

Roger Beard of S P Beard & Sons has a long standing history with Swindon College. He studied at Swindon College 45 years ago and his brother Colin also taught at the college. The company has had seven apprentices with the college and all of them have won awards.

Roger, of S P Beard & Sons said:

I have invested in this recent apprenticeship because I have been working on my own for a few years and then my son was made redundant so we took him on as an apprentice. My son is now going to carry on the family business and this will be the third generation. We get good support from the college, including several visits from the training co-ordinator. Having an apprentice brings many benefits – new ideas are brought into the business and you get extra support and good knowledge from the apprentice.

I enjoy my time with Swindon College, all of my teachers really know their stuff. They taught me exactly what I needed to know and I really enjoy the practical side of things. I especially liked making a door in my second year and learning about joints and grooves. I plan to stay for Level 3.
