Level 2 - Engineering Apprenticeship

Eamonn Hackett

Eamonn, 33, has been working for EMCOR for four years. He started as a Water Treatment Operative, then moved to Condition Based Monitoring (CM Practitioner Role) in January 2015 and wanted to gain qualifications to supplement the in-house training he was receiving to progress his career and gain further knowledge and skills.

Eamonn had no formal engineering qualifications prior to starting his apprenticeship but he did have GCSE’s, a GNVQ in IT (gained at Swindon College) and a NVQ in Team Leading.

He wanted a course which would complement his job role and the Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship offered what he needed – a short (1 year) programme which would allow him to gain industry knowledge and the NVQ which would allow him to prove his skills in engineering.

Eamonn has always had an interest in engineering following his experience of working in Honda and wanted to pursue an engineering career.

Eamonn said:

I have had the opportunity to learn new skills and this has improved my confidence in my abilities, especially in electrical & electronic engineering and use of maths in the engineering environment.

Eamonn collects vibration data, carries out thermographic surveys, basic repairs, re-alignment, balancing motors and fans.

Eamonn wants to progress to the Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship Programme next year, continue to progress his career within EMCOR, learn more engineering skills such as PLC’s and continue his professional development at work.
