Level 2 - Housing Apprenticeship

Maisie Burrows

Maisie always did well at school but when she went to 6th form college, she just didn’t get on with it and was becoming very despondent. Then someone came to her school to talk about apprenticeships and Maisie and her family thought this sounded like the route for her.

She said:

Someone at Swindon Borough Council said I could do an apprenticeship and it would all be in house and linked to Swindon College. I haven’t looked back since, it’s been great. My college contact called Sam is always on time with coming to review me at work and she is very supportive. If I had any problems, I know I could speak to her and get extra help.

Maisie added:

To get a qualification is great and I feel like I am working already by being at the council every day. I am much  more suited to learning on the job to having lessons. All of my assignments for Swindon College are manageable and I get so much support from the council as well as the college. This is really one of the best things I have done.

18 year old Maisie has enjoyed her experience so much that she applied for a trainee housing officer role and got it! She will do that job for two years and will be sent to Cardiff University once a week.
