Level 3 - Digital Creative Media Production

Kyle-Horwood

Kyle is a great example of how far you can go in your career choice, no matter how specialist it is, if you are really committed.

After completing his Level 3 BTEC Digital Creative Media Production course at Swindon College in 2012, Kyle helped BAFTA and Abertay University to develop prototype games for the winners of BAFTA’s Young Game Designers (YGD) competition.

These games were then showcased to HRH The Duke of Cambridge, the President of BAFTA and HRH The Duchess of Cambridge on a visit to Dundee, where Kyle is now finishing up his final semester of a Masters in Games Development.

But not only has Kyle gone on to impress BAFTA enough to be a recipient of the BAFTA Scholarship – he also has a constant stream of freelance work to keep him occupied in his spare time.

25 year old Kyle originally wanted to be a film director but then, once he got onto the course at Swindon College, he decided he would like to be a games artist.

He said:

The lecturer of the BTEC, Paul Moss, was a great help when it came to how my interest and skill in being a games artist developed. He was a great teacher and a real inspiration to me.

His dream job is to eventually be a texture artist for a company called Naughty Dog.

Kyle said:

I want to get myself to a stage of experience where I can then confidently apply for that company. That would be my dream.
