Level 2 - Site Carpentry Apprenticeship

Reed Griffin

Reed, 18 is currently studying Level 2 Site Carpentry. Previous to this, reed completed an engineering course but found this was no longer for him so he decided to change to carpentry.

Reed explains:

I lost my passion for engineering and decided to try something new, I had a go at carpentry and I enjoyed it and from there it’s stuck. I really love being hands on and making things from scratch; it’s so rewarding.

Alongside his course, Reed completed work experience at a local carpentry firm, where he has been offered employment after he completes his course.

Reed recently came 4th in a regional AoC competition held at Exeter College where students from wood trades, plumbing, electrical and stone masonry completed tasks testing their technical skills.

One of Reed’s challenges was to construct and market a DVD rack and presenting it to the judges.

It was a great experience to be involved in the competition, I loved every minute. Not only was the experience a great point to highlight on my CV, I also came fourth in a high standard competition and received a certificate for my efforts.
