Electronic resources


These electronic resources are available to you if you have a Swindon College login account.

The electronic resources, e-books, journals and databases you can access as part of your studies, are provided under licence agreements. They are only to be used for study purposes, for the length of your course. Use for commercial purposes is not allowed. Substantial downloading from an e-book, journal or database is banned by the publisher.

Gale - General and useful for most subjects at Swindon College. It contains links to: .

MEDLINE - Life sciences and bio-medical information. Includes journal articles on medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine and health care.

SportDiscus - Includes sports and sports medicine journals. Topics include: bio-mechanics, drugs, exercise, kinesiology, movement science, nutrition, occupational health and therapy, physical fitness, physical therapy, rehabilitation, sports and exercise psychology, coaching and education.

GreenFILE - Covers all aspects of human impact to the environment. It’s a collection of scholarly, government and general interest titles include content on: global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling and more.

JSTOR - Journal archive for Arts, Humanities, Science and Social Science.

E-Books for FEA collection of free e-books for further education colleges through Jisc collections.   Staff and Students can access unlimited number of e-books an unlimited number of times anywhere.  They cover a wide range of subjects; from Business to Psychology, Construction to Engineering, Sport to Health and Social Care. 
The collection also includes GCSE English and Maths textbooks and workbooks – helping support the requirement for Students to re-sit these subjects if they haven’t achieved a Grade 4.

Dawson Ebooks - Provides full-text access to a collection of ebooks purchased by the LRC. The collection contains titles across all subjects taught at Swindon College. 

ISSUES Online - Provides up-to-date information on contemporary social issues such as: crime & justice, drugs & alcohol, economics & welfare, environmental & global issues, family & relationships, health & well-being, media, rights & discrimination and science & health. This resource contains: videos, key facts, lesson ideas and short ebooks.

RefMe - A free tool (requiring you to sign up) that quickly creates reference lists in over 7000 different styles (includes: Oxford Brookes University and Swindon College styles).
