The Looking Glass

19 May 2017

Five talented Foundation Degree Creative Arts and Design Practice students, studying an Oxford Brookes validated course at Swindon College took their work to the Oink Gallery in Swindon this week.Examples of work from the exhibition The Looking Glass

Mark Pepperall, ex-Swindon College art student and now Director of the gallery kindly supported the exhibition and made it possible for the students to exhibit in the Community.

The title of the exhibition “The Looking Glass” was inspired by the late stained glass window, commissioned by Victoria Road Technical College, the old Swindon College Art School, which is now on display at the North Star site.

The work the students produced evolved from the ideas of light, translucency, symbolism, memorial and regeneration, which led to paintings produced on discarded glass, etching in Perspex, and sculptural garments and paintings conveying symbols and fragmented imagery.

Tutor Jo Billingham commented: “This group of students have worked on this project with the intention of making individual pieces which communicate a cohesive theme.
