Wiltshire Festival of Engineering

08 November 2017

The festival was created by Michelle Donelan MP ‘as a response to the severe skills gap in Wiltshire in engineering, design and technology related roles’, hoping to ‘inspire and engage young minds’ with engineering and technology – and it was a fantastic day!

Hundreds of pupils from local schools descended on the event, getting hands on and involved with all sorts of activities, and our Lego Mindstorms robots proved very popular! Our Honda apprentices Kristof and Ryan explained how the robots worked, and helped the pupils get hands on. (Not that they needed much help!) The pupils programmed the robots to follow a set of instructions via an iPad, which they could then see in action, and had a go at controlling the robots directly with a touch screen remote.

We also had time for a quick chat with Minister for Schools Nick Gibb MP and event organiser Michelle Donelan MP about our super-cool Lego Mindstorms robots.

Overall it was great fun and a big success. We can’t wait to see what this next generation of engineers will achieve in the future.
