Swindon College Health & Social Care Higher Education enrolment

The Swindon College Caring Professions and Educational Practice team saw a swell in its recruitment to Higher Education Programmes with 41 Students enrolling on the Foundation Degree and Higher Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care.  The students come from Swindon, the wider Wiltshire area, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.  They are Trainee Assistant Practitioners who will graduate in two years’ time and can go on to further study for careers in Nursing, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Operating Department Practitioners amongst other specialisms.  There is also an opportunity to progress to do a level 5 in leadership and management, to further increase their options in their chosen career.

This course has grown and its success is evident in the numbers now enrolling, one reason for this is that students are able to do a level 5 qualification and earn at same time.  Companies can use their apprenticeship levy to support their employees through the course.  Swindon College has built strong links with Oxford Brookes University, who are the qualification accreditation body, Oxford University Hospital who have 15 students enrolled on the programme and Great Western Hospital Trust, Swindon.  Dawn Lucas, Head of Learning, said “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Great Western Hospital, Oxford University Trust and other employers within the community in supporting their staff to achieve this prestigious qualification. We will be working with our partners and Oxford Brookes University to further develop our curriculum to meet employer needs."

If you are interested in studying towards one of these career paths, please contact David Panes (Programme Leader) or Dawn Lucas (Head of Learning) at Swindon College for further information.  If you are concerned that you do not have the entry requirements, Swindon College also offers Access to HE courses in related subject areas.

Swindon College has an open evening on Thursday 12th October when staff will also be available to discuss what courses are available to further your career across different subject areas.  Please contact Student Services on 01793 491591 or
