Welcome to Swindon College School of Art’s Inaugural Young Photographer competition!

07 December 2018

We're launching a new Young Photographer competition this year, and entries are now open!

This year’s theme is “Reflections” which you can interpret in many ways.  We are looking for original photographs, where you have thought about the point of interest in a reflection – how will you interpret this?  Keep an eye on reflective surfaces and capture what they send back to you.  Your photos could capture other interpretations of the word reflections and it is up to you how you wish to portray the theme.

The competition is open between 7th December 2018 and 5th April 2019 to all 14-18 year olds in the Swindon and Wiltshire area.  We are looking for 12 photographs in total.  The top 3 photographers will each win a prize of a half day workshop in our photography studios, an A3 framed print of their winning entry and vouchers for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes as chosen by the judges.

The winning photographs will be used to produce a calendar in support of local charity TWIGS (Therapeutic Work in Gardening Swindon).  TWIGS was formed in 1997 and has been working with people who are experiencing mental health problems by providing gardening and craft activities.  Six staff and around 30 volunteers deliver the TWIGS service at the Cheney Manor based garden.  TWIGS now provides places for up to 100 people who have the opportunity to work on projects across Swindon, linking with the wider community. The garden site is ever changing, as is the dedicated and skilled team of people who contribute to this special place.

Alan Holland, Service Manager for TWIGS says:  'TWIGS is delighted to have been selected as the charity that will benefit from Swindon College's photography competition. We very much look forward to seeing the work that is submitted and would welcome participants to come to take photographs at the Community garden site'

We look forward to receiving your entry and will be in touch 28 working days after the closing date (5th April 2019) to let you know if you are in the top 12.
