Viktor Sukharyev Represents Swindon College at the Guild of Bricklayers Competition 2018

Viktor Sukharyev represented Swindon College at this year’s national final of the Guild of Bricklayers Competition 2018, held at Brooklands College in Surrey, having won the senior section of the Western regional heat in May.

The Regional Competitions for brickwork apprentices are organised annually by Guild of Bricklayers Section Committees, with heats held in each of 12 regions, before the winners compete in a final competition. Although Viktor wasn’t placed in the top three of the final, he was one of only six competitors out of the twelve competing, to complete the build.

The standard was very high, as you would expect from the best in England, Wales and Scotland, and we would like to wish Viktor a huge congratulations for his achievement in the final.

Viktor has been studying a Level 3 Bricklaying Apprenticeship at Swindon College, and says that throughout his studies here, he has found staff and tutors to be friendly and supportive.

After completing this apprenticeship, Viktor hopes to take up an electrician apprenticeship, as this is what he had wanted to do initially.  When he came to England 5 years ago, he didn’t have the GCSEs required to get on to that course, but since studying at Swindon College he has achieved GCSEs in both English and Maths, and passed the assessment test with a score of 95%.

We wish Viktor every success with his current apprenticeship and in the future.
