Student Finance Advanced Learning Loan

The Advanced Learner Loan may be available for students aged 19+ studying for Level 3 and above qualifications.

About the Advanced Learner Loan


  • You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the cost of college course fees from 1st April 2016
  • Loans do not have to be paid back until you are earning more than £21,000 a year and you have finished your course
  • There are no credit checks and eligibility does not depend on your income
  • There are no upper age restrictions for the loan.

If you are aged 19-23 and you do not already hold a full Level 3 qualification, you may have your course fees waived for a Level 3 qualification. Please contact Student Services to discuss.
If you are aged 24+ and unemployed, you may have your course fees waived for courses up to and including Level 2. Please contact Student Services to discuss.
If you are aged 19-23, unemployed and you already hold a full Level 2 qualification, you may have your course fees waived for courses up to and including Level 2. Please contact Student Services to discuss.

How to Apply


  1. Check with Student Services that your course qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan
  2. Request a ‘Learning and Funding Information Letter’ from Student Services to complete your application – you cannot apply until you get this
  3. Apply via Student Finance England.
